The Triumph of Free
Expression Over the Repressive Policies of the Stalinist Regime as
Examined Through Children's Stories by M. Zoschenko (Excerpt)
Her
project is directly related to the research toward one of the
chapter's of the book on Russian culture, which I am
working on. Her topicóa case study of a brilliant
writer bravely and cleverly fooling the brutal censorship and
political police in Stalin's Soviet Union by writing and
publishing a cycle of tongue-in-cheek stories about Lenin
ostensibly for children but actually intended for and appreciated
by adultsóis very important and ground-breaking for the
study of how various dedicated intellectuals managed to preserve
and transmit the humanistic values of Russian culture in spite of
the Communist government's unrelenting and ruthless
oppression.
