Abstract

Our minds can seem inherently chaotic. We internalize an overwhelming amount of experiences, opinions, and fears that often have little to do with our immediate lives. We become consumed by distant realities while overlooking the richness of the one directly in front of us. My project is about coming back home to yourself. Letting go of the programming that the loud and fast world has wrapped around us. With quiet observation and reflection I have created four paintings which reflect peace and universal ideas that connect all of us spiritually and emotionally. As my attention returned to the present, the noise began to soften. Sharing conversations, observing nature, and creating with intention became reminders that meaning is often found in ordinary moments rather than extraordinary events. Experiences I’ve had, picking fresh fruit in the garden, washing myself in a stream, laying in a field amongst the birds and the bugs as the warm mid day sun kisses my face… these activities are not rewarded in the hustle and bustle of modern life. However, I have found they are indispensable teachings to remind one of the importance of being present. While learning how to be human again, using the plants, the stones, and waters as my teachers, I’ve produced four paintings that reflect my experience of slowing down enough to witness the quiet wisdom of the natural world.
