Enhancing Connections Across Delaware’s Food Systems Network

This presentation examines applied research and technical support provided to the Institute for Public Administration’s (IPA) Health and Aging Policy area, specifically detailing work related to Delaware’s Food Resource Network. It highlights IPA’s ongoing partnership with the Delaware Farm and Food Council, delving into the technical assistance and data analysis provided to the Council. This includes examples and explanations of data visualization tools and resources, such as GIS maps and case studies derived from information gathered across statewide food networks. 

Next, the focus shifts to direct contributions to these projects. Through visual demonstrations, the presentation highlights work done updating and maintaining core statewide databases for pantries, food closets, and grocery stores, illustrating how raw data translated into spatial maps. Additionally, it highlights contributions to the Farm to Community program, framing its impact both nationally and within Delaware, while connecting these efforts to broader collective impact strategies, data usage, and regional trends.

In conclusion, the presentation shares key field experiences that deepen the research, including site visits, Council meetings, and proposed concepts for the Council Student Ambassador initiative. Finally, it wraps up with sharing my key takeaways and a reflection on how this experience will inform future academic studies at the University of Delaware and guide career development.
